Global Bulakeños open center for Overseas Filipinos at SM City Marilao

Overseas Filipino Workers from Bulacan and their families can now experience a world of exclusive privileges at the newly opened Global Pinoy Center at SM City Marilao.

SM Supermalls president Annie Garcia led the opening ceremonies followed by a ribbon-cutting activity held last February 4. It was attended by no less than Bulacan Governor Jonjon Mendoza and Marilao Mayor Peping Guillermo.

President of Blas F. Ople Policy Center and Training Institute, Ms. Susan Ople, also graced the event to show her support for SM’s program for Filipinos working abroad. Ople is an advocate of the welfare of global Pinoys and is popularly known as Ate ng mga OFWs. R & B Princess and a native of Bulacan, Kyla, entertained the audience.

Bulakeños formerly working abroad were hailed by the mall as true Global Pinoys serving as inspiration for OFWs from the province. Obando Mayor Orencio Gabriel shared his experience before he became known as the Pinoy Tortilla King of the US making a success with his four Mexican restaurants and tortilla factory in San Diego, California while boosting his realty and commercial investments both in the Philippines and in the US.

Civil engineer Faustino Manlapaz had his two decade career in Libya, Saudi Arabia, and Malaysia before he established his very successful poultry farms in Baliwag and Hagonoy towns.

A businessman from Baliwag, Mr. Tony Bautista, worked as assistant planner and later as executive assistant in Saudi Arabia. He founded the All Filipino Tennis Player's Association, the biggest sports association in Saudi. He also served as the Executive Council Chairman of the Kapulungan ng mga Samahang Pilipino (Kasapi), the biggest federation of Filipino Associations in Saudi. He now has his own fleet of businesses and has received numerous awards for his contribution to the OFW community including the Bagong Bayani Award, Presidential Award, and Dangal ng Lipi Award.

An assistant vice president of PhilPacific Insurance Brokers and Managers, Ms. Claudine Ronas worked in the insurance industry in the US for 12 years. Two-time Olympian, Ms. Lydia de Vega, represented by her sister-in-law Jocelyn, was also hailed because of her contribution to the Philippines. She is considered as Asia’s fastest woman in the 1980s and she is currently working abroad as coach of Singapore’s track and field team.

De Vega and Ronas, along with Mayor Gabriel, Engr. Manlapaz, and Mr. Bautista were the recipients of the ceremonial turnover of Global Pinoy Cards.

The guests, together with invited OFWs from Bulacan and their families, welcomed the opening of SM’s 4th Global Pinoy Center. Mall of Asia opened its hub last December 10followed by SM Fairview on January 28 and SM Clark in the morning of February 4.

The Global Pinoy Center is an exclusive lounge for the hardworking Filipinos and their relatives in the country. Here, they can rest their feet while doing errands such as claim remittance and exchange currencies, communicate via videoconferencing through Abot Tanaw, or consult government-related concerns with the center’s guest services representatives.

To qualify for membership, OFWs who have an active contract abroad or even former OFWs should fill out the Global Pinoy membership application form and submit it with any valid ID, (for Global Pinoys) or any ID and proof of remittance (for beneficiaries) at the Global Pinoy Center.

Each member is given the Global Pinoy Card which entitles him and his family P80,000 worth of discounts in education, health services, hotels, restaurants and various shops. For example, a member may avail himself of 20 percent off on tuition fees for his family in Asia Pacific College or 15 percent off in National University and discounts while shopping at various SM retail shops.
